Nicole & Dapo's Sunset Engagement Session at the RC Harris Water Treatment Plant

When Nicole and Dapo began planning their engagement session, they knew they wanted a location that felt elegant, timeless, and unique. They were drawn to the stunning architecture of the RC Harris Water Treatment Plant in Scarborough, one of Toronto's most iconic hidden gems, and envisioned a session that combined beautiful sunset light with a mix of documentary and posed photographs.

From the very beginning, it was important to them that their engagement photos felt authentic. While they appreciated editorial-inspired portraits, they also wanted images that reflected who they are as a couple, the joy , the quiet moments, and the genuine connection they share.

Why We Chose the RC Harris Water Treatment Plant

The RC Harris Water Treatment Plant is one of my favourite locations for couples who love architecture and timeless design. Often referred to as the "Palace of Purification," the building features beautiful Art Deco architecture, grand columns, intricate stonework, and incredible symmetry.

For couples looking for engagement photos that feel both romantic and elevated, it's hard to find a more unique backdrop in the Greater Toronto Area.

The combination of elegant architecture and the nearby waterfront also offers incredible variety within a single session.

A Blend of Documentary and Editorial Photography

One of the things Nicole and Dapo specifically requested was a balance between candid moments and guided portraits.

Throughout the session, I encouraged them to interact naturally with one another rather than focusing on the camera. Some of my favourite images from the evening came from the moments in between, the conversations, the connection, and the way they naturally gravitated toward one another.

At the same time, we incorporated intentional editorial portraits that highlighted both the architecture and the beautiful styling they brought to the session. This combination created a gallery that felt personal, emotional, and timeless while still delivering the refined look they were hoping for.

Chasing the Sunset in Scarborough

As the evening progressed, the light became absolutely beautiful. The warm sunset glow complemented the neutral stone architecture perfectly and created a romantic atmosphere throughout the session.

Golden hour is always one of my favourite times to photograph couples because it adds softness and warmth while allowing genuine moments to unfold naturally. Nicole and Dapo embraced every moment, making it easy to create images that felt effortless and authentic.
